It's a common opinion these days
Lately, there seems to be a common opinion that people have become shallower, with shorter attention spans and less capacity for in-depth engagement. I see things a bit differently, though. The sheer volume of information we’re exposed to every day has grown exponentially, and I think we’re adapting to this flood of information.
For instance, the idea that our attention spans are dwindling might not be entirely fair. Sometimes, it’s more about the quality of the content. If a movie or a piece of content doesn’t engage us deeply, we might naturally drift away. This doesn’t mean we’re incapable of focus; it just means that the platform or the format might not be designed for deep dives.
This is why I often keep my comments off during live streams. The platform isn’t really built for deep, meaningful conversations. It’s not about the people; it’s about the medium. It’s like, even though all you want is meat, the closest store only offers ramen, and you kind of go with it every now and then; we adapt to what’s available.
So, if you ever feel like your thoughts aren’t being heard, it might not be a reflection of the depth of your ideas, but just the context. Everything has its right place and time!
People are not shallow. You are not shallow. If anything, people are at their smartest and deepest right now, based on what I see in my daily life.
